Use a portable jump starter only with a compatible 12V vehicle system and the model manual in reach. This guide explains a cautious connection sequence and what to check when the vehicle does not start.
Before connecting
- Park safely, switch off the vehicle and accessories, and keep sparks and flames away.
- Confirm the vehicle is a compatible 12V system and that the jump starter supports the engine size and fuel type.
- Check the jump starter charge level, clamps, cable and casing. Do not use damaged equipment or a swollen battery.
- Keep the unit dry and place it on a stable surface away from moving belts and fans.
Connection sequence
- Connect the red clamp to the vehicle battery positive (+) terminal.
- Connect the black clamp to the recommended negative (-) point or vehicle ground specified by the manual.
- Confirm the clamp indicator shows a safe connection. If a reverse-polarity or fault warning appears, stop and correct the connection.
- Start the vehicle using short attempts. Do not hold the starter continuously or exceed the model manual limit.
- Once the engine starts, switch off the jump starter if instructed, then remove the black clamp followed by the red clamp.
- Recharge the jump starter and store the clamps safely.
If the vehicle does not start
- Check charge: recharge the jump starter if its display is low or the unit has been stored for a long time.
- Check connection: clean accessible terminal contact, confirm polarity and use the specified ground point.
- Check protection state: reverse-polarity, short-circuit, low-voltage or temperature protection may prevent output. Disconnect, wait and follow the manual.
- Check fit: engine size, fuel type, battery condition and temperature affect results. A jump starter is not a guarantee for a failed or frozen battery.
- Stop when unsafe: do not bypass a protection circuit, bridge clamps, reverse polarity or continue if cables heat abnormally.
Choose a model by evidence
A3 is documented for up to 8.0L gasoline / 6.5L diesel, while KP700 is documented for up to 6.0L gasoline / 4.0L diesel. U23, U32 and OJ02 have their own documented limits. Review each product page and manual; do not transfer one model's rating to another.
FAQ
Can I use a jump starter on a diesel truck?
Only when the selected model's documented diesel and engine-size range covers the vehicle. Confirm the exact model manual before connecting.
Why is the jump starter not working?
Low charge, poor clamp contact, incorrect polarity, a protection state, an incompatible vehicle or a battery that cannot accept a jump are common causes. Follow the checks above and stop if anything is unsafe.
Can I leave the clamps connected?
No. Remove them promptly after the vehicle starts, following the model instructions.
